Aerospace & Engineering

Discover Your Passion: From Flight Plan to Maximum Altitude!

Johnson Aerospace and Engineering is the SPPS Aerospace and Engineering STEM magnet program.  All ninth grade students are exposed to the field of engineering and the thinking of engineers in the PLTW Essential Engineering course.  Freshmen also create their flight plan for their future in Freshman Focus (or AVID 9).  They explore careers, post secondary options, values, skills, and interests while creating a resume and a four year high school plan.  From there they move on to a Career Pathway of their choice and continue learning about careers in their area of interest.  In Junior Frameworks students continue their career exploration, post secondary selection, and complete a mock interview and e-mentors.  Students have a wide range of academic opportunities, ways to engage with the world of work, and groups/clubs/athletics.  All students in the district are eligible to attend Johnson Aerospace and Engineering.

Johnson Aerospace and Engineering has:

  • CIS/AP offerings.  Students could complete over 16 credits from the U of M without leaving our building by the time they graduate.

  • The most Project Lead the Way (PLTW) classes and the most engineering classes in the district.

  • Flight Sim lab dedicated to accruing flight hours and preparing for ground exam/Drone pilot exam.

  • CAD lab, 3D printers, Robotics courses with Festo Trainers and more!

  • Career Readiness: Freshman Focus, Junior Frameworks, AVID, Intro courses for all pathways with a career development component.

  • Student Leadership in Advisories with Govie Leaders

  • Clubs and groups, interesting electives to match your interests or discover a new one!
