Length: 2 Semester (4 Credits)

This rigorous class focuses on the rhetorical analysis of complex fiction and nonfiction. Students learn to identify and analyze the strategies that authors use in order to communicate their message. Students will write about a variety of subjects and demonstrate an awareness of audience and purpose. This will be accomplished through expository, analytical and argumentative writing.

This course will prepare students for the Advanced Placement Language and Composition Exam in May. It will also enable students to write effectively and confidently in their college courses across the curriculum. This course has required summer reading, which is available from the teacher, the counseling office, and from the Johnson English Department website.
